Finaly my "Merlot Buckwheat", aka my new sweater is almost ready

9/11/2012
Starting the neck shaping,. Since I am not familiar with the technique, I go "what the heck!!!". But once finished, I loved it and found it a very smart way to build the neck with a perfect professional finishing. No need to pick up stitches for the ribbing.

9/15/2012
Finished with the body. I did a quick fitting and love it!! Perfect for my body.

9/17/2012
Starting the sleeves. I am having a hard time because of the choice of my needle, they are a bit long for this short row method.

10/28/2012
90 rounds and 4 weeks later the first sleeve is done. I really need to get me a set of DPNs...
One more sleeve and I am DONE!!!

More of the The story of the "Merlot Buckwheat", aka my new sweater

I am progressing quickly in my knitting. Knitting in the round will do that to you!!
It is time for a new Chapter of the story telling.

8/9/2012
Continuing knitting the lower part of the body, thinking I might want to add a few good cm, to cover a little bit more of my lower waist part than the pattern call for. I would hate to have it too short. I found most of my sweater from stores are too short. I must have a longer body than average people.

I am switching yarn of each ball every row and keep it tight. I am pretty happy about it, the switch is barely visible on the wrong side and not visible on the right side.

8/12/2012
Starting the waist shape. It is about time!!

9/5/2012
Well summer was slow, but suddenly plenty of orders came in and I found myself having to put the sweater aside to complete all new orders. I am finally back on a better schedule and was able to finish the waist shaping and started the front shaping.

9/7/2012
Started the front, had to alternated 3 threads to avoid color pooling. I hope now I can finsh it quickly as planned.

The story of the "Merlot Buckwheat", aka my new sweater

I was thinking that it could be fun to write the story of the new sweater I am knitting on the blog instead of the little note space in Ravelry. I can document it with pictures and funny faces!!
So here it goes...

Once upon a time...it is beginning of August and I am already thinking back to school, fall, winter and what kind of sweater I am going to wear. I have decided to challenge myself this year and try not to buy any new sweaters. Instead I am going to make them, something like 5 to 7, all ready for the first day of Winter, which in California is Dec 1. (I swear it is true )

I have picked a few (almost 100) favorite patterns in my ravelry, created a Pinterest board "Sweaters I want to knit", so I am ready for it.

Chapter 1

"Buckwheat" by Veera Välimäki in Merlot Wollmeise Sockenwolle 80/20 Twin.

Started swatching with 3.0 mm needle, liking it.
[Got these needles from Europe by accident, I ordered a US 2 thinking it was a 2.75 mm but it came as a 3 mm. I was annoyed at first but now very happy because I can’t find them in the US and they are useful for a bunch of my patterns .]
Got 3 skeins of the same color for my sweater but will start the body with 2 skeins, hoping I will only need 2. I’m mixing up the 2 skeins just in case (I am not familiar with hand dye yarn), changing every row.

8/7/2012
Finished with ribbing, that went fast!! Yarn feels a little different than “Pure” 100% Merino Superwash but let’s knit more before I get a definitive opinion about it.

8/8/2012
I have decided to keep the same needle to knit the stockinette part of the body. So far I like the tight knit.
I have tried it to see if I had picked the correct side and it looks like it is going to be a perfect fit.

more of my adventure soon...
